Quick Takeaway from today:
Earnings are in focus this week, especially as the Fed speakers are in their quiet period ahead of next weeks FOMC on 2/1. MSFT had a post market reversal after they provided soft guidance. Will this begin to sour the growth space? We don’t know yet, but we do know that MSFT has not been leading performance for some time now…so it may be less impactful to the leaders… here is the MSFT vs QQQ chart.
Even though it has been underperforming it may still affect the QQQs which are up a mighty 8.6% ytd. On the higher end of growth, we have the ARKK ETF (Innovation) +22% ytd… and I think it make sense to have a plan if we see a change in momentum in an area that is overbought in the short term.
For example, I would look to short or hedge my long portfolio if ARKK drops back into its Jan Value Area < $36.18. Also note that TSLA is 8% of this ETF and reports post close tomorrow.
Let’s move on to stocks / groups showing leadership!
Financials have the highest # of companies on today’s scan. In particular, Insurance co’s after TRV (Traverler’s) beat sales estimates today. Co’s in the Insurance group on today’s scan are AON AFL CB TRV. Industrials also showed up with 5 companies ACM AME WAB ZTO JBHT.
Remember, I am only showing a few setups from the list here and review more in the TTG Trading Room. I provide a more detailed watchlist every weekend to start the week at TTG.
